Blibdoolpoolp

Blibdoolpoolp

Alonius picked the downstairs door lock and peaked through to see 2 goblins in a long hallway.

Severian and Crystal continued with their plan. Severian disguised himself as a Bugbear Warrior that we had previously killed, and pretended to take Crystal as a prisoner. They went in the downstairs door that Alonius had unlocked. Severian and Crystal made it past the first room with no interruptions. They entered the second room where the Bugbear Warrior was sleeping and Severian successfully KILLED HIM IN HIS SLEEP! [Guy killed me with a sword Mal.] At that point the goblins realized they were enemies and attacked accordingly.

It was a relatively uneventful battle. Alonius killed both Goblin Skullcleavers that were in the hallway. Corun and Crystal each got to kill a goblin in the second room. We discovered a Belt of Sacrifice, which went directly to Corun. We also found the key to the door Alonius had broken into.

The group continued into an adjoining room. There was a pool of water with a statue in it. The statue was of a half woman half serpent. The creature was recognized as the deity Blibdoolpoolp [See comments —Sean]. Alonius threw a stone into the water and nothing happened. Crystal did not sense any magic coming from the statue. Alonius heard a conversation in common down the hall but could not make out what they were saying.

Severian Asked For A Non-Smoking Room

Severian Asked For A Non-Smoking Room

After the bar was set on fire a continuous line of enemies kept appearing. We recognized one of the hobgoblins as a Warcaster, a few more grunts and even discovered a few Hobgoblin Blackblades. Severian defeated the Warcaster and 2 of the Blackblades. Crystal subdued 4 grunts. Heimdall killed 1 Blackblade while Corun and Alonius killed a grunt each.

Two of the patrons died while playing cards. Two others escaped, along with Erra, Rendil and a man from upstairs. With the help of the townspeople we successfully extinguished the fire and saved the Inn. Alonius walked back into the Inn and took the melted coins from the card table (worth 50GP).

Erra showed us her gratitude by offering us permanent room and food at her Inn. She thinks thatthe mages might be giving the bloodreavers free-reign. She tells us to stay away from Brug who seems to have new masters. She continued on that The Chamber of Eyes (a ruined shrine east of 7 Pillared Hall) is where bloodreavers tend to be. She added that the minotaur statue is a teleportation circle that leads to a tower in the NE corner. The group departs for The Chamber of Eyes.

It turns out to be an uneventful trip. We travel through the Dragon Door, turn left at the door with 5 eyes. Corun notices runes in the wall and guides us through the rest of the way. We enter into a lantern room with a 25 foot tall ceiling. The walls drip with condensation. There is a balcony at the other end of the room and two demon statues flank a stairwell with a door in the middle of the room. The door contained the symbol of an eye with multiple eye stalks (similar to a beholder). The symbol also contained a circle with a crossbar.

Crystal heard high voices and footsteps behind the door. She understood that someone was asking when Krand will divide the loot. Another yelled to keep quiet that they are supposed to be on guard. Some of the group climbed up the balcony to listen at that door. They heard another voice complaining that they want to get paid. Crystal and Severian peak through the doorway on the balcony. They see a very large figure sleeping in a bed, and 2 Goblin Skullcleavers cleaning their gear. Severian recognizes the sleeping figure as a Bugbear Warrior, and thinks he will be able to transform himself into this form. The two climb back downstairs to tell the other their plan.

Corun Would Tap That

Corun Would Tap That

Alternate Title: I Feel Shame As A Minor Action

Alonius stealthily opened the door where we heard the voices. He saw 4 Hobgoblin Soldiers, a Hobgoblin Warcaster and a cowering halfling in the back corner. The room was brightly lit and contained 10 foot tall casks and some flimsy tables. Alonius accidently slammed the door shut but no one inside seemed to notice. The group made quick work of the enemies and Severian approached the halfling. The halfling introduced himself as Rendil Halfmoon. He said that hobgoblins jumped him in the 7 Pillared Hall. He started rambling that his aunt Erra owns Halfmoon Inn, which wasn’t far, and that he could guide us. He also stated that we must stay on the Mages of Saruun and Brugg’s good side. Brugg is an ogre enforcer/thug. Crystal didn’t quite buy his life story but trusted that he would lead us to the 7 Pillared Hall. Severian mentioned that the hobgoblins are stealing humans. Rendil claimed to not know anything about this and we believed him. Rendil said that these hobgoblins were calling themselves bloodreavers.

Rendil sucessfully led the group to the Thunderspire and our first stop was at the Halfmoon Inn. Erra offered us room and board. We asked Erra about anyone/anything interesting in the area. She told us about a halfling minstrel named Bennick the Wanderer, a merchant dwarf named Ulthand Deepgem, who used to be the cleric of Moradin. She also tells us of the Temple of Hidden Light (aka Erathis) and a trading post run by the Grimmerzhul clan. Corun recognized Grimmerzhul but would not elaborate. She also told us about the Rothar Taproom run by an ill-tempered half orc. She warned us not to go there. She also says there is a crazy sage (whose name she won’t mention), and that we will know when we see him. Heimdall began to wander around the Inn and heard mutters and noticed cautious stares. Erra commented that the Mages of Saruun don’t seem to care that everyone is scared. Humans are even getting sold to bloodreavers. Erra says that the mages are supposed to watch over everyone. She also states that no one can find the entrance to the tower.

Suddenly we noticed a naked person walking around the Inn. We assumed he was the crazy sage. He was recognized by a few of us as Mindartha the former wizard. In his arms were books and scrolls. We approached him and he stated that clothes would slow him down and he doesn’t know who is after him. He kept starting to talk and stopping mid sentence. Corun detected a magical aura on him, suggesting he was under a spell of some kind. Alonius offered Mindartha a room at the Inn, which he accepted.

While we were partaking in the festivities at the Inn 4 hobgoblins ran in with swords, telling everyone to kill us who ask about the bloodreavers. We recognized one of the hobgoblins as a Bugbear, while the others were merely grunts. Crystal quickly dispersed the grunts while Heimdall took care of the Bugbear. As soon as those hobgoblins were killed 4 more showed up. One of them threw a torch and set the bar on fire. Alonius then saw a naked wizard running away from the Inn.

Corun Wants Ale, Heimdall Wants Tail

Corun Wants Ale, Heimdall Wants Tail

Alternate Title: Alonius Gets A Tramp Stamp

Alonius told the group that for a small amount of money each, he has found a way for us to all get the Tattoo of Bonded Defense. This tattoo allows allies to shift closer to a first-bloodied ally as an immediate reaction. We visited a tattoo artist named Rusk. Oddly enough, Rusk recognized Corun. He told her he was sorry about what happened and Corun responded that she didn’t want to talk about it. The incident left the group quite confused. Alonius stayed behind to speak to Rusk about Corun, but he seemed unwilling to answer any of his questions. 20gp bought Alonius the knowledge that Corun’s clan is a Mindshadow clan, which was no big secret. We returned to the tavern and Alonius bought Corun ale and the rest of the group a feast.

Next was a visit to Lord Padraig. We showed him the “greetings Kalarel” letter and Padraig said that it was the best lead we have. Corun and Salvana worked diligently and were able to stabilize him. Lord Padraig agreed to pay us if we show proof that the bloodreavers have been defeated. The offer was 1000GP for the group.

While in the tavern we spoke to many of the townspeople. Salvana was angry that she did not know about Ninaran or Bairwin. Valthrun and Eilian spoke about a city named Saruun Khel in the mountain built by minotaurs. It is an underground city that disappeared 300 years ago. A labyrinth and a 7 pillared hall were mentioned throughout history. Mages of Saruun have influence on the remains of the city. Valthrun says if we bring him back a souvenir he will give us a small reward and a ritual of our choice. Severian stated that e got a tip from his contact and suggested that we search the city of Fallcrest. Lenora warned Alonius, Crystal and Corun that there was something evil about Severian.

Next we headed to Bairwin’s basement. It smelled of death and decay and contained pews and pictures of Orcus on the carpet. Heimdall spotted the remains of a skeleton warrior in the pews. Alonius found a prayer book.

[insert text from Sean]

Alonius saw something “not right” in the back corner of the room. Corun noticed a loose block in the wall, which Heimdall promptly removed. In the hole we saw another room with shelves and a chest. We entered and Alonius opened the chest. Inside was 200SP and 100GP. On the shelves Crystal found prayer books, ritual books and history books. She placed the ritual and history nooks in her bag of holding. In one of the ritual books Crystal found the *Comprehend Language *ritual. She also found a correspondence from Kalarel to Bairwin, and another from Ninaran to Bairwin.

[insert text from Sean]

She called Corun over to her and they quietly decided to keep the pages between the two of them until they are able to ask Padraig who recommended Severian.

The group inspected the prayer book that sat on the altar. It seemed to be a powerful prayer. We decided it would be best to keep the leader book but burn the rest. Crstal put the books in her bag of holding to burn when able. Heimdall proceeded to destroy the altar.

Crystal and Corun made a trip to visit Lord Padraig to ask about Severian. Padraig told us that he came recommended by a guild, but knew very little after that.

During our journey to Fallcrest we burned the books and read through the Thunder Peaks and the Shadowfell. We passed by the Thunderspire on our way, which consisted mostly of pine forests and hills. We found our way to a dwarf-made trade road highway from Fallcrest to Hammerfast. It was a trade road to Vale Road which cut through to mountain. Black clouds hid the tip of the Thunderspire Mountain.

We continued on the trade road to Fallcrest, and headed straight to the Inn of The Welcome Wench, owned by Gundigoot. Gundigoot ran the Inn with his wife and two daughters. Alonius introduced himself to Gundigoot and asked about the Thunderspire Mountain. He responded that he did not know of anything strange regarding the mountain. Heimdall asked Gundigoot about arm wrestling and he pointed to a stone mason dwarf treasure hunter named Fernok, who lives at the Inn. Heimdall then went off to find some wenches. While this was going on Severian wandered off on his own and returned with news that his contacts were wrong about Fallcrest being important. Gundigoot went on to tell us that two humans named Rufus and Burn lead a malitia in town, and are rumored to have slain a green dragon. Heimdall immediately befriends them. Gundigoot asks us to take care of any trouble at the Thunderspire.

The group’s attention then wandered to Fernok. Alonius noticed that he frequently cheated in his
Ship, Captain and Crew games. Heimdall challenged Fernok to an arm wrestle. Fernok won only by someone kicking Heimdall’s legs out from under him. No one was able to see who did it. Alonius the challenged Fernok to a game of Ship, Captain and Crew, which a bet of 10GP. He used 3 of Splug’s trick dice and 3 of Furnok’s. Alonius beat him and Furnok stormed off.

The group then made the trek to Thunderspire on a cobblestone path. They went through the minotaur gate to The 7 Pillared Hall. As we approached the hall Severian’s eyes went wide and he stopped in his tracks. (He sees a war of undead and minotaurs. He raises the rod in the air and chants that the minotaurs will die.) We do not see or hear any of this.

We then reached the Road of Lanterns. Through an open door we hear “you’re ours now, halfling. We’ll easily get 10 gold for you.” A high voice responded “that’s a shame cause I’m worth 20. I’ll buy myself if you’ll let me go.”

Kalarel Flashes His Rod at Severian

Kalarel Flashes His Rod at Severian

Alternate title: Alonius Inspects Severian’s Rod

The group continued their battle with Kalarel. Sometime during the encounter Kalarel whipped out a mirror and shadows started moving excitedly.

Heimdall defeated a skeleton but the Wight resurrected it. Almost immediately Crystal brought the skeleton to its final death. Alonius moved toward Kalarel and a shadowy claw reached out of the portal behind him to attack Alonius. The portal’s claw attack had a reach 5, and it healed Kalarel each time the claw made a successful attack.

Crystal recognized the mirror as the one that had been found in the graveyard. Further inspection revealed that looking into the mirror would cause it to attack and take a surge away from you. The mirror was also somehow linked to the ritual that was trying to open the portal.

Corun gave the final blow to Kalarel, at which time the portal claw reached out and dragged his body into the portal. Kalarel dropped his weapon (The Rod of Ruin) and the mirror before entering the portal. The rod rolled purposely toward Severian. Severian grabbed the rod and was overcome by a vision. After it finished he shared with the group that he had a vision of war and the end result was him choking on his own fluids. A voice had then whispered to him to “seek Karavakos.”

The group found a +2 magic dagger which Corun generously handed over to Alonius. We also found a note and a ritual book on the altar, both of which we took. Alonius managed to find some gold on his own and pocketed it while no one was looking.

Severian began to get a bad feeling about closing the portal. As a test he put the Rod of Ruin down and he did indeed feel better about closing the portal. Corun and Crystal got together and ended the ritual, closing the portal.

We opened the note and it read:
“Greetings Kalarel,
I am happy to hear that our plan is progressing so well in Winterhaven. I approve of your suggested changes of the ritual of Unbinding I gave you, I think you are on the right track. The Nareth wizards’ seal will soon be broken and our Dark Lord’s hordes will yet again walk the lands of the living. Keep an eye on the bloodreavers, they have started to ask questions. If you need anything further just ask.
-Your Master”

Heimdall successfully beheaded to huge statue of Orcus. Before he did so he noticed that the stone rod that the statue was holding resembled the Rod of Ruin. Heimdall threw the stone head down the pit opposite the altar. The group made numerous attempts to break the magic of the mirror and Alonius finalized it. Crystal put the bag in her bag of holding.

RETURN TO WINTERHAVEN
*********************

The group returned to Winterhaven and received a mix of feelings. We were informed that Bairwin had been taken prisoner by the townspeople for killing Rond the guard. When Rond entered Bairwin’s home he apparently discovered a shrine to Orcus in his basement. We then realized that Bairwin was the one who had purchased the mirror from us after we found it in the graveyard.

We also learned that Lord Padraig was gravely ill, and we suspected Bairwin had something to do with it. The group visited Lord padraig who let us have say over Bairwin’s sentence in his absence.

BAIRWIN’S TRIAL
********************

A trial was set up with Winterhaven townspeople as witnesses. Bairwin admitted setting up the altar in his basement but refused to admit he murdered Rond. Corun threatened to show him the mirror and Alonius actually removed the mirror to place in from of Bairwin. This got a clear reaction out of him, since he was not aware that we had removed the magic from it. He then admitteds to giving the mirror to Kalarel and also to killing Rond.

Why Are You Hittin' Yourself?

Why Are You Hittin’ Yourself?

The group defeated all the enemies in the room and took a short rest. We then searched the entire room, starting with the giant columns. We discovered they were non-magical light sources. Alonius walked up to the pit and through a sunrod into it. It fell about 50 feet down and hit a deep pool of blood. We heard muffled voices from below and Corun understood the word “undead” spoken in common. To ensure that no creatures couls climb up them, the group pulled all four chains from the pit.

Alonius and Heimdall then approached the hanging humans. There were 2 males and 1 female. As soon as they were removed from above the altar they died. We noticed then that the room was not always an Orcus room. It had been defaced to serve the evil purpose. Corun cleansed the alter with some of her ale before we made our way back to the pit. Alonius and Heimdall tied their ropes down and we all climbed down them stealthily. We also threw two chains back down, in case something were to happen with the ropes.

Once near the bottom of the pit, we encountered Kalarel himself. Crystal had extensive knowledge of Kalarel, and learned that our found dragon statues gave us each a +2 to saving throws against Kalarel. Death Lock Wights, Skeleton Warriors and the escaped Clay Scout were there to help Kalarel fight us. We also discovered that a circle of runes in the floor gave a +2 to Kalarel’s defenses, and heal 5 for Kalarel and undead within range while Kalarel stood inside it. We noticed that it was somehow linked to the chanting ritual.
